菲红十字会主席戈登(RichardGordon)强调了保持热线畅通，以服务真正紧急情况的重要性。他说：“让我们阻止或避免滥用菲红十字会的143紧急热线因为我们需要尽快对紧急情况做出回应。"
菲红十字会运营中心的数据显示，8月14日拨打该热线的超过2300通电话中，78%实际上为恶作剧电话，呼叫者在应急人员应答后不久就挂掉电话。
